2000s slang

2000s slang was MTV slang. Music videos, reality TV, and AIM screen names shaped the vocabulary. Bling, swagger, crunk, iced out — all peaked in the 2000s rap era. Paris Hilton's that's hot, the Jersey Shore lexicon, and the early texting acronyms (lol, brb, ttyl) defined how teenagers talked.

It was also the decade hipster culture matured (Williamsburg, indie sleaze, twee), and the early online vocabulary (LOL, ROFL, AFK) became standard.

Bottom line

Most 2000s slang reads as costume now (bling, crunk). But the early texting acronyms became permanent English, and the music vocabulary (iced out, drip's predecessor) directly seeded the 2010s.
