Privacy policy
Plain-language version. Last updated April 25, 2026.
Slangora is built to be a useful slang dictionary, not a data harvester. We collect the minimum we need to run the site, we don't sell anything to anyone, and you can delete your account and data whenever you want.
What we collect
- Email + password if you make an account, stored and hashed by Supabase. We never see your raw password.
- Username and any bio you set. These are public on your profile page.
- Your contributions — definitions, votes, comments, favorites, reports. Definitions and comments are public; votes, favorites, and reports are private to you and to admins reviewing them.
- Aggregate page views per word (a single integer counter), used to populate "trending" and "most viewed." Not tied to your account.
- A session cookie from Supabase so you stay signed in. That's the only cookie we set.
What we don't collect
- No advertising or tracking pixels. No Google Analytics. No Meta Pixel. No fingerprinting.
- No selling, sharing, or licensing of your data to third parties. Ever.
- No precise location, no contact list, no device sensors.
Who we share data with
We use a small number of vendors to run the site. They process data on our behalf, never for their own marketing:
- Supabase — hosts our database and authentication.
- Netlify — serves the website and stores standard server logs (IP + user agent) for a short retention window for abuse prevention.
- Cloudflare — DNS only.
- Resend — sends transactional email like password resets.
Your rights
If you're in the EU, UK, California, or anywhere with similar privacy laws, you have the right to access a copy of your data, correct it, or delete it. You don't actually need a law to do this — we'll honor any reasonable request from anyone, anywhere.
To delete your account and all associated data, email hello@slangora.com from your registered address. We'll process it within 7 days. Public definitions you authored may stay live but will be re-attributed to "anonymous."
Children
Slangora is not directed at children under 13. If you're under 13, please don't make an account. If we learn an account belongs to someone under 13, we'll delete it.
Changes
If we change this policy in a meaningful way, we'll update the "last updated" date at the top and, for material changes, post a banner on the site for at least 14 days.
