A UK legal term for a proposed alternative to the ASBO (Anti-Social Behaviour Order) — a civil court order intended to curb anti-social conduct by imposing behavioural restrictions on individuals. The 'respect order' was floated as a rebrand of the ASBO concept during political discussions around anti-social behaviour policy in the 2000s. Where ASBOs became culturally associated with young troublemakers (and were sometimes worn as badges of honour), respect orders were intended to sound more constructive and positive.
