(Ireland, colloquial) ostentatiously pious.
An Irish colloquial put-down for someone who makes a big public show of their religious devotion — literally and figuratively beating their chest (the "craw") to signal piety. Think the person who insists on loud prayers before every meal, lectures others about Sunday mass, but behaves terribly the rest of the week. Still very much alive in Irish conversation as a way to call out performative sanctimony.
(Ireland, slang, term of endearment) creature (a wretch).
(Ireland, obsolete) creature.
(UK, informal, pejorative) A person who puts on a pretense of piety.
