A portmanteau of 'freeze' and 'camporee,' a freezoree is a winter camping event organized for Boy Scouts or similar youth groups. Like a standard camporee — a gathering of multiple scout troops — a freezoree involves outdoor skills competitions, campfire activities, and badge work, but adds the extra challenge (and misery) of doing all of it in sub-zero temperatures. Scouts who attend earn bragging rights and, more practically, cold-weather survival skills.
He told anyone who would listen that the freezoree had been brutal, but he was already signed up for next year's.
