A rare English word surviving mainly in Anglo-Indian administrative writing, where it described the levying of a tax, fine, or duty imposed by an authority. In standard English, 'imposition' covered the same ground, which is why 'imposement' remained marginal — a bureaucratic formation that never fully naturalised.
