Origin: Alteration of earlier gibone (also spelled jiboney, jaboney, etc.), possibly from dialectal (“ham”, also “self-important fool”). As a wrestling term, it was popularized by Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, who claimed to have borrowed it from the Iron Sheik.
