(baseball, _, slang) A knuckleball.
Baseball slang for a knuckleball — the notoriously unpredictable pitch thrown with the knuckles or fingertips that barely spins and moves in chaotic, dancing patterns that confuse even the pitcher throwing it. A knuckler is one of the rarest pitches in pro baseball because it's so hard to control and so hard to hit. Pitchers who master the knuckler can have unusually long careers because the pitch doesn't strain the arm like fastballs do. It's the unicorn pitch of baseball, loved and feared in equal measure.
(baseball) To throw a curveball.
(baseball) A forespin pitch thrown by rotating the index and middle fingers down and resulting in motion down "curve".
