A mid bet is the least convincing 'bet' — technically an agreement, but delivered with all the enthusiasm of someone who'd rather be home. It's the 'yeah, sure, bet' that fools nobody. The recipient knows the commitment is shaky, the sender knows they're probably flaking, and both parties are doing the social dance of technically agreeing while everyone understands the real meaning. A mid bet is what happens when you lack the courage to say 'actually, I can't' but also lack the conviction to mean it.
