SO glad I traveled the world when I was young. Went to Beijing when they were building the Birds Nest Stadium. Polluted smog back then, on my way to the Bijing Opera, I can only imagine now.
I didn't coin the term but I absolutely agree with it. We're gonna be pulling this trash from the walls of society for years to come. So much data has been polluted with it.

When someone is polluted in the Irish sense, they've gone well past merry and into territory where coordination and good decisions are both distant memories. It's a vivid metaphor: your system has been contaminated, your judgment compromised, your ability to walk in a straight line seriously degraded. Used with the kind of amused resignation the Irish bring to stories about a big night out.
