In the American South, a razorback is a lean, tough feral pig with a sharp ridge of bristles running down its spine — the kind of wild hog that roams forests and is notoriously hard to catch or kill. The name comes from that distinctive razor-sharp back. Beyond the animal, "Razorbacks" is the proud nickname of the University of Arkansas sports teams. In nautical use, it also referred to fin whales. The feral pig meaning is most widely known today, especially in Southern US states.
A razorback had torn through the corn field overnight — those things are practically impossible to fence out.
