An obsolete Irish English name for the meadow pipit, Anthus pratensis, a small brown bird common on Irish moorland and grassland. The name is derived from Irish Gaelic and was used in older Irish natural history writing. Now entirely replaced by meadow pipit in standard usage.
The old gamekeepers called the little birds wekeen and could imitate their call perfectly.
