In British military usage, a batwoman is the female equivalent of a batman — a personal servant or orderly assigned to an officer, responsible for looking after their quarters, uniform, and general needs. The role has a long history in the British armed forces, and while the term sounds incongruous today, it was official usage for female personnel serving in this capacity. Outside the military it's also simply the word for a female Batman, DC Comics character, which has given the term a second life entirely.
Her batwoman had his uniform pressed and his boots polished well before the morning inspection.
