Someone who has so thoroughly internalized orbiting as a social strategy that they can't bring themselves to commit to either real contact or clean silence. Orbiting-pilled people believe the digital breadcrumb trail is a form of communication — that watching stories sends a message, that a like is a statement of intent, that visibility is intimacy. They've swallowed the logic that presence without contact is meaningful, which explains why they keep doing it despite knowing it's a little unhinged and definitely not working.

The state of deliberately or unconsciously drifting into orbiting behavior — watching an ex's or crush's social media without making real contact. Orbiting mode is often something people slip into without consciously choosing it: you told yourself you were over it, but here you are, watching every story, liking posts from three weeks ago at 2am. The 'mode' framing acknowledges it as a behavioral state you can enter and theoretically exit, which makes it feel less pathetic and more like a temporary glitch to be debugged.

Peak orbiting is often the phase just before someone either finally texts or finally gives up for real. It can also describe a culturally notable moment of orbiting — a breakup story so recognizable that it defines what the behavior looks like at its most concentrated.
