Student slang for a college or university course that's notorious for being easy — minimal readings, forgiving grading, and an almost-guaranteed decent grade. Gut courses are the strategic picks that pad a GPA or lighten an otherwise brutal semester. Every campus has them, and the campus grapevine makes sure everyone knows which ones they are. Sometimes called "blowoff courses" or "easy As."
I'm taking Intro to Film Appreciation as my gut course this semester so I can focus on organic chemistry.
