HNIC is an American slang acronym standing for 'Head Nigga In Charge' — used originally in Black American communities as a sardonic or self-assertive way to describe the person running a given operation, organisation, or situation. The term reclaims the racial slur within the community and can function as a power assertion or as ironic commentary on who actually holds authority. It has been used in hip-hop culture extensively. Outside Black communities, the term is deeply offensive and inappropriate.
