DO stands for Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine — a fully licensed physician in the United States who has completed a four-year medical degree at an osteopathic medical school. DOs hold the same prescribing rights and can practice in all the same specialties as MDs, but their training includes an additional focus on the musculoskeletal system and a holistic view of patient care. In casual American medical slang and conversation, 'DO' is used just like 'MD' to refer to a qualified doctor.
