A New England term for someone who harvests quahogs — the hard-shell clams native to the Atlantic coast of North America. Quahoggers work the shallow tidal flats, often using long-handled rakes to drag up clams by the bucketful. It's hard, physical, cold work tied to the coastal identity of places like Rhode Island and Cape Cod. A quahogger can also refer to the flat-bottomed boat specifically designed for clamming in shallow water. Either way, it's unmistakably a New England thing.
