Australian slang from the 1950s for the female counterpart of a 'bodgie' — the Aussie equivalent of a greaser or teddy boy. Widgies were young women who embraced the rebellious postwar youth subculture: tight skirts, rock 'n' roll, and a devil-may-care attitude that scandalized polite society. In Northern English children's slang, it separately means a penis, but the Australian meaning is the more historically significant usage. Both uses have largely faded from active slang.
