A slow-living aesthetic that took off on TikTok in late 2023, in which young women publicly slow everything down — long morning routines, cooking from scratch, working part-time, going to bed early — as an explicit rejection of hustle culture and the "girlboss" archetype that preceded it. The phrase was popularised by creator Sienna Ludbey, who framed her own pivot away from a high-pressure career as entering her "snail girl era". It overlaps with cottagecore, soft-life and that-girl trends, but the snail-girl framing is more specifically anti-work: the slowness is the point, and the snail emoji often signs the posts.
An aesthetic defined by the visual, emotional, and cultural language of female friendship — think sleepovers rendered in pink and fairy lights, inside jokes written on mirrors in eyeliner, group photos with arms around each other and eyes half-closed from laughing. Girlies core is the aesthetic of belonging to a girl squad at its most idealized: the matching pajamas, the grocery store runs that turn into two-hour hangs, the specific warmth of being known by people who actually know you. It romanticizes the ordinary texture of girl friendships and presents it as worth documenting and celebrating.
A state of fully leaning into a soft, feminine, indulgent aesthetic or mindset — doing things like skin care routines, wearing pretty outfits, and embracing comfort and cuteness without apology. Common on TikTok and Instagram as a descriptor for self-care days or outfits.
A TikTok aesthetic and identity that emerged around 2022–23, in which young women — usually millennials and older Gen-Z — lean into office culture as a positive lifestyle: tailored blazers, oat-milk lattes, perfectly colour-coded Outlook calendars, productivity systems, and earnest "day in my life as a corporate girlie" vlogs. The trend is partly nostalgic (echoes of 1990s working-women movies), partly aspirational (a generation locked out of housing finding stability in the structure of office life), and partly ironic. Corporate girlie is generally read as the cheerful, pro-work counterpoint to lazy girl job and snail girl era, even though many creators play in both worlds.
5am wake-up, gym, oat latte, three back-to-back stand-ups — I've fully accepted that I am a corporate girlie now.
