A historical Indian administrative term referring to the district or jurisdiction governed by a faujdar — a military or police officer appointed during the Mughal era and later under some colonial administrations. Faujdari also came to describe criminal court proceedings in the British Indian legal system. The word is primarily of historical interest today but appears in colonial-era records and historical texts about Indian governance.
