To ambush an enemy player — usually in a lane, usually as a jungler coming out of fog. A well-timed gank is the backbone of a MOBA early game.

A skill gap so enormous it borders on comedy — not just a diff but a full-on chasm between players that makes you wonder how they ended up in the same lobby. Mega diff is what happens when a diamond player smurfs in bronze, when a pro stomps a casual, or when someone is so obviously outmatched that spectators wince on their behalf. It goes beyond a regular diff into territory where one side shouldn't even have showed up.

Short for 'difference'. Used as a suffix to call out a one-sided matchup in a specific role or category: 'mid diff', 'jungle diff', 'aim diff', 'mechanics diff'. Originated in League of Legends chat and spread across competitive games and Twitch chats. Posted by chat after a clear lane or role mismatch.

When the skill gap isn't in your favor — you're the one being outclassed, and the stats make it humiliatingly clear. Negative diff means you're the reason your team lost the numbers game: fewer kills, lower damage, worse positioning, slower reaction time. It's the cold analytical way of saying you got stomped, popularized in esports commentary where 'he ran a negative diff all series' is both polite and devastatingly honest at the same time.

A glorious double-meaning slang term born in the MOBA and FPS trenches. On one level, mid diff refers to a skill disparity specifically in the middle lane — that player just ran circles around their opponent. On the other, it works as a self-deprecating or dismissive read: a 'mid' (mediocre) performance gap that's somehow still enough to decide the match. Either way, someone in the middle of something is getting cooked.
