Lock in means to fully focus and commit. When your kid says "I need to lock in" before exams, they mean they are going to stop scrolling and concentrate. It comes from gaming and sports culture. This is one of the more positive Gen Z phrases. It is not drug-related and not concerning. Encourage it. You might also hear "locked in" meaning fully focused, or "we need to lock in" before a group project.
