An American portmanteau term for a combined racetrack and casino facility — a venue where live horse or greyhound racing is combined with slot machines, table games, or other casino gambling. Racinos emerged in the US from the 1990s onward as racetracks sought new revenue streams through gambling legislation. Common in states that permit slot machines at racetracks but not full commercial casinos.
The racino outside town had become more popular than the track itself, mostly because of the slots.
