It's used with affectionate self-awareness, acknowledging that aunty energy is something everyone eventually taps into, regardless of actual age or family role.

The most perfectly archetypal expression of aunty behavior — a moment, person, or action so on-brand it could be the definition photo. Peak aunty is showing up to a gathering with three dishes when you were only asked to bring bread, followed by a fifteen-minute assessment of everyone's life choices. It describes the Platonic ideal of the aunty experience: simultaneously overwhelming, deeply caring, and impossible to argue with. Used affectionately to highlight moments of particularly intense aunty behavior that hit every note at once.

When someone attempts to act as the responsible, protective older-sibling figure but crashes out spectacularly — the advice was wrong, the intervention made things worse, or the protective instinct backfired. A kuya fail is particularly painful because it happens in the context of genuine care: they were trying to help, they stepped up, and they still managed to make it worse. It doesn't disqualify someone from the kuya role permanently, but it will be referenced in group chats for years.
