Definitions
The unmistakable vibe someone radiates when they are operating from a place of genuine self-assurance and zero need for external validation. Based energy doesn't have to be loud — sometimes it's the quiet confidence of someone who said an unpopular thing and didn't bother defending it, or who showed up exactly as they are without calibrating the presentation for the room. You feel based energy more than you hear it. It's the slang equivalent of 'she walked in and she just had it'.
The way he answered every question without once checking anyone's reaction — pure based energy from start to finish.

- basic energy79%
The unmistakable aura someone radiates when everything about them screams predictable, mainstream, and utterly without edge. Basic energy isn't just about what you like — it's about how you carry yourself. Pumpkin spice latte in hand, Uggs on feet, Instagram caption reading 'vibes.' You're not a bad person; you're just operating on the same frequency as roughly 40% of the internet. It's an energy people can smell from across the room, and once you've been labeled with it, escaping is harder than you'd think.
- bas energy78%
The unmistakable aura of someone who is one degree away from being completely done with a situation — that measured calm where you can tell they've already decided but haven't announced it yet. Bas energy isn't aggressive or dramatic; it's the quiet before a clean departure. You feel it in short replies, in polite-but-not-warm responses, in the slight delay before they answer. Filipino social media uses it both to read situations ('she has major bas energy tonight') and to self-describe when patience is almost gone.
- based coded78%
Describing someone or something that radiates an energy of authentic, unapologetic self-assurance without necessarily being explicitly 'based' by community consensus. Based-coded is a vibe read rather than a formal designation: you clock it in the way someone speaks, the opinions they volunteer unprompted, the effortlessness with which they ignore social pressure. Characters, public figures, and even inanimate objects can be based-coded if they project that particular brand of breezy independence.
- based fail74%
When someone attempts to be based — authentic, fearless, unapologetic — but fumbles it so thoroughly that the attempt itself becomes the joke. A based fail happens when the independence reads as ignorance, the hot take turns out to be simply wrong, or the refusal to care about optics results in an outcome that clearly required caring about optics. It's the gap between the aspiration to based energy and the reality of what came out. Documented and shared lovingly by witnesses.
- based mode73%
The activated state of operating fully based — no filters, no social hedging, no adjustments for the crowd. When someone enters based mode they say exactly what they think, make choices that suit themselves alone, and refuse to walk anything back under pressure. Based mode can be switched on deliberately or recognised in others after the fact. It's admired when the takes are good and mildly feared when they're not, but either way there's a purity to the commitment that earns a degree of respect.
