cheug

(internet slang, neologism) The state of being cheugy.

A public auditing of whether something — an outfit, a trend, a decor choice, a phrase — has crossed the line into embarrassing out-of-dateness. The cheugy check is performed either self-inflicted (panicked second-guessing before posting) or crowd-sourced (asking the group chat if your skinny jeans still count as cheugy in 2024). It's the fashion equivalent of holding a mirror up to your taste and asking if what you see is still cool or has quietly become a target. Sometimes the answer stings.

Outdated, uncool, or trying too hard — aesthetics and trends that millennials still embrace but Gen Z has moved past (Live Laugh Love signs, skinny jeans, side parts).

Mega cheugy is the superlative form of cheugy — reserved for things so thoroughly soaked in outdated millennial aesthetics that one 'cheugy' just doesn't cover it. We're talking matching family pajama photos with an Elf on a Shelf, a kitchen backsplash that says 'Gather,' and a vision board covered in rose-gold inspirational quotes. Mega cheugy isn't cruel; it's almost affectionate, like spotting a unicorn of cringe.

(Internet slang) One who is mogged.
