DPC

(computing) To foul up; to be occupied with difficulty, tangle, or unpleasantness; to be broken.

Originally a game mechanic where a boss fight or trial tests whether your team deals enough damage to pass a threshold — if you fail the DPS check, you wipe. Outside of gaming, a DPS check has become shorthand for any high-stakes moment that reveals whether someone is actually performing at the required level or just coasting. Job interviews, clutch sports moments, and pressure situations at work are all described as DPS checks. The term carries implied stakes: pass and you prove your output, fail and the whole operation collapses around you. It's a clean metaphor for performance under pressure.
