dps check

When a player's or team's damage output falls short of what a fight, challenge, or situation demands — resulting in a wipe, a loss, or a failed execution. A DPS fail is the specific embarrassment of being the weak link on offense: the boss enrages because your numbers weren't there, the clutch moment passes because you couldn't deliver. In broader usage it describes any moment where someone's output or performance visibly falls short at the worst possible time. It's not about effort — it's about the cold reality that the numbers weren't high enough when it counted.

The mental state of locking in entirely on output and performance, ignoring all distractions to maximize what you can produce in a given window. When someone activates DPS mode they're not answering texts, not chatting, not worrying about the bigger picture — they're executing with maximum efficiency on the task in front of them. Borrowed directly from gaming where going DPS mode means dropping all support behaviors and focusing purely on dealing damage, the phrase has become a broader shorthand for any high-focus, high-output work state. Think: noise-canceling headphones on, notifications off, results incoming.

A person whose entire personality and approach to life screams pure offense, output, and self-reliant performance — someone who leads with action over strategy, who measures success in results and damage done rather than collaboration or process. DPS coded people are the ones who want to be the one pulling the highest numbers, who get restless in support roles, and who approach any competitive situation looking for the fastest path to maximum impact. In gaming it's an archetype; in the wild it describes the person who's always trying to carry, always maximizing their own output, always optimizing for output above all else.

When a player's damage output is so improbably high it raises serious questions about whether they're using exploits, hacks, or other illegitimate methods to inflate their numbers. Sus DPS makes other players stop and stare at the parse: numbers that defy what should be achievable with that gear level or class, cooldown usage that doesn't line up with the logs, or burst windows that look physically impossible. In a community that takes performance integrity seriously, getting labeled sus DPS is an accusation as much as a compliment — you're not being praised for the numbers, you're being investigated.

A call-out or self-assessment determining whether someone is playing intentionally badly in a game — deliberately dying, feeding kills, or throwing objectives on purpose. Dropping an int check on a teammate is equal parts accusation and interrogation: are you actually this bad or is something deliberate happening here? The check invites either a confession, a defensive explanation, or a meltdown in chat. A staple of competitive gaming communication, it has migrated into everyday discourse to question whether someone's terrible decision-making is wilful or just genuinely catastrophic.
