healing check

Definitions
A moment of honest self-assessment about where you actually are in your emotional or mental health journey — no performance, no toxic positivity, just real talk. A healing check asks: are you actually doing better, or are you just posting about healing? It's both a personal practice and a social media prompt where people drop candid updates about their progress, setbacks, or general emotional temperature. The healing check cuts through the curated wellness aesthetic to ask the real question: how are you actually doing?
Healing check: I thought I was over it but I cried in the parking lot when his song came on, so apparently not.

- mindfulness check72%
A moment — often prompted by a friend, a caption, or a crisis — where you pause and deliberately audit your own mental and emotional state instead of spiraling deeper into the chaos. A mindfulness check isn't necessarily a full meditation session; it's the quick internal inventory: Am I okay? Am I reacting or responding? Have I eaten water and drunk food today? The term lives at the intersection of therapy-speak and group chat culture, often deployed when someone is clearly in their feelings and needs a gentle redirect back to the present moment before they send that text.
- grounding check70%
A moment of intentional self-assessment to gauge whether you're still anchored to what actually matters — your values, your body, your present reality — rather than spiralling in your head. A grounding check might be a quick 5-4-3-2-1 sensory exercise, a journal prompt, or just pausing to notice you've been doomscrolling for an hour and your shoulders are somewhere near your ears. Popularised in wellness and therapy-influenced corners of social media, it's both a noun (something you do) and an invitation (asking a friend if they've done theirs).
- grief check70%
When someone pauses mid-breakdown to acknowledge — out loud or in a post — that they are, in fact, currently in their feelings. A grief check isn't about being fixed; it's about radical honesty with yourself and your feed. Online it shows up as a caption, a voice memo, or a mid-cry selfie with zero apologies. Sometimes it's a friend texting 'grief check?' to see if you need a call. Either way it's emotional transparency without the pressure of having it together.
- healing70%
Intentionally resting, journaling, or doing anything that makes you feel better as a form of self-care. Carries specific Gen Z / wellness-TikTok baggage.
- real check68%
A real check is a moment of honest, no-sugarcoating assessment — either given to yourself or delivered by someone who cares enough to be blunt. It cuts through the cope, the delusion, and the convenient narratives you've been running. When someone hands you a real check, they're not being mean; they're being a mirror. You're either in your bag or you're not. You're either growing or you're circling. A real check doesn't dress up the truth. It presents it plainly and expects you to do something with it.
