In My Opinion. Used to soften an opinion or signal it's subjective.

IMO stands for In My Opinion, used in online and texting contexts to soften an opinion. Not concerning, just internet vocabulary. If your kid uses it constantly, ask them where they first heard it, not to police their speech but to understand which online community they are in. Most slang of this kind moves through TikTok and group chats, so seeing it in your child's vocabulary just means they are plugged into normal teen internet culture.
IMO is an internet and texting initialism for "In My Opinion," used to soften a stated view. Use in informal writing. Formal equivalent: spell out "In my opinion." Common non-native mistake: confusing with similar acronyms (IMHO - In My Humble Opinion). IMO is more confident; IMHO adds humility. Both function as discourse markers softening assertions. Read or listen to the word in context several times before trying it yourself; the right register is harder to learn than the dictionary meaning.
