A period of intense personal transformation or escalation — a mad arc is when someone's story gets turned up to maximum drama or growth in a short span. In NYC slang, a mad arc is the trajectory of someone who went through a lot, changed significantly, and emerged different: relationships, career pivots, neighborhoods, whole personalities. It's the story you tell in retrospect. 'I went on a whole mad arc after I left that job.' It can be positive or chaotic or both, because in New York most arcs are both.

The story arc of a player — or occasionally a streamer or pro — during which their gameplay deteriorates so badly, so publicly, and so consistently that observers begin narrating it as a character development. The int arc is watched with fascination: each death builds the lore, each terrible decision adds a chapter. The arc framing implies it has a beginning, a chaotic middle, and an eventual resolution — usually either a ban, a public breakdown, or an unexpected comeback that redeems the whole thing cinematically.

A mood arc is the emotional trajectory someone — or a piece of media — travels across time. Borrowed from narrative storytelling, where a character arc tracks growth or decline, the mood arc describes how your feelings shifted from the start of a situation to its end. Someone might say their night had a mood arc from hyped to devastated to weirdly peaceful. It's also used to critique media: a film with a strong mood arc makes you feel something different at the end than you did at the start, and online discussions increasingly judge playlists, shows, and relationships by the quality of their mood arc.
