When someone or something has a little bit of edge but not enough to actually land — stuck in the sad middle ground between truly witty and completely harmless. Mid bite is the roast attempt that gets a polite chuckle instead of a shocked gasp. It's the clap back that almost worked. The comeback that needed one more pass in the edit bay. Not offensive enough to be problematic, not sharp enough to be impressive. Basically the participation trophy of verbal sparring.
