Definitions
When a group's collaborative effort actively produces worse results than any individual working alone — the opposite of what synergizing is supposed to achieve. Negative synergize is the dark irony at the heart of corporate team culture: the possibility that bringing people together, running alignment sessions, and coordinating across functions can make outcomes demonstrably worse. It's chaos dressed in the language of cooperation. The committee that designs a camel when it wanted a horse. The cross-functional team that ships nothing. Negative synergize is when the whole is less than the sum of its parts.
That six-person rebranding committee was pure negative synergize — the original idea was better.

- negative synergy85%
When combining two things makes both of them worse — the collaboration that subtracts value instead of adding it. Negative synergy is the official-sounding way to say a pairing backfired spectacularly: the merger that tanked both stocks, the collab track that disappointed both fanbases, the friendship group that imploded once that one person joined. It borrows the corporate pseudo-science framing of synergy and weaponizes it against itself. Often used with a straight face for maximum comedic effect when the disaster is obvious.
- synergize fail76%
The specific, exquisite disaster that happens when an attempt to align, collaborate, or leverage collective team energy goes spectacularly wrong — the workshop that produces nothing, the brainstorm that devolves into passive-aggressive silence, the offsite that costs thousands and changes everything back to exactly what it was. A synergize fail is a badge of honor in satirical office culture because it proves that the machinery of corporate collaboration can be both elaborate and completely useless at the same time. It's the meeting that needed another meeting.
- synergy fail75%
When two people, teams, or ideas were supposed to click but instead produced something worse than either would have alone. A synergy fail is the anti-miracle — the collaboration that made everything harder, the merger that ruined both brands, the duo that clashed so hard in the studio the album sounds like two different songs stitched together. Usually deployed as a post-mortem roast of a collab that definitely should have stayed separate. The word 'synergy' doing overtime here because it usually promises the opposite.
- synergize74%
To act in synergy; to work together to create an effect that is greater than the individual parts.
- synergize mode71%
The state of entering full corporate buzzword autopilot — when someone (or a whole team) switches into a mode of performative collaboration where every sentence contains a power verb and meaningful action is conspicuously absent. Synergize mode is a satirical term for the meeting-room personality that emerges when people optimize for sounding strategic rather than actually being useful. It's the professional equivalent of talking to hear yourself talk, dressed up in the language of high-performance teamwork. Once synergize mode activates, expect a lot of 'circling back' and 'moving the needle.'
