Someone who pivots hard into learning new skills, especially when their previous career path gets disrupted by automation, layoffs, or industry shifts. A reskiller doesn't wallow — they enroll, they grind bootcamps at 11pm, they earn certifications while everyone else is complaining on LinkedIn. Equal parts necessity and hustle mentality, the reskiller is the worker who refuses to be made obsolete without a fight.
Upskill mode is the state of being fully locked in on self-improvement and skill acquisition — courses open in multiple tabs, YouTube tutorials queued, notebooks filling up with notes on things you're determined to master. Someone in upskill mode has made a decision, usually after a career wake-up call or a period of stagnation, that they are done being where they are and will actively build their way out. It's focused, intentional, and often temporarily all-consuming.
When an attempt to learn new professional skills goes sideways — the course doesn't stick, the bootcamp doesn't deliver, or the new field turns out to be just as disrupted as the old one. A reskill fail can mean wasted money, wasted months, and a bruised ego.
