People enter stan mode voluntarily and sometimes come out of it mildly embarrassed.

A stan god is someone whose stan dedication has reached legendary, almost mythological status — the person in a fandom who has memorized every lyric, attended every tour date, owns every merch drop, and whose entire sense of self is threaded through their devotion to the artist or figure. In stan culture, being called a stan god is a genuine compliment: it recognizes a level of commitment and encyclopedic knowledge that most fans can only aspire to. Think of them as the elder of the fandom, the person whose opinion on authenticity and knowledge carries weight in fan spaces.

Stan coded describes a person, account, vibe, or behavior that radiates pure unfiltered fandom energy — even if they never explicitly call themselves a stan. The overcurated feed, the deep knowledge of an artist's discography down to the B-sides, the borderline-parasocial way they talk about a celebrity like a close friend — it all reads as stan coded. A mid stan is someone whose dedication to a fandom is disappointingly average — they know the hits, own one or two pieces of merch, and will show up online during the big moments, but they're not putting in real work. They miss comeback streams, they don't vote in polls, and their knowledge gaps become embarrassingly obvious when real stans start talking. Mid stans often think they're deeper into the fandom than they are. They're harmless but offer little to the collective effort when the charts actually need them.

A stan arc is the personal narrative someone goes through as a fan — from the first accidental exposure to a song or clip, through the obsessive deep-dive, the merch purchases, the stan account creation, maybe a phase of burnout, and sometimes the quiet exit. It's the full story of how someone's relationship with a celebrity or piece of media evolves over time.
