Definitions
The stretch of the year — often autumn through early winter — when comedy festivals, specials, and tours converge and the culture suddenly has opinions about standup again. Standup szn is when Netflix drops its biggest specials, when every comedian has a new hour on the road, and when Twitter becomes a battleground for defending or destroying whatever controversial bit someone did. For fans it's the most exciting time on the calendar; for comedians it's when the stakes of every set feel higher.
Three specials dropped in one week — standup szn is hitting different this year.

- stan szn77%
Stan szn — short for stan season — is the stretch of time when a beloved artist, show, or public figure is actively dropping content, making moves, or generating enough buzz that stanning them hits differently. During stan szn, the fandom energy is at its absolute peak: streaming parties, countdown clocks, group chats melting down, and Twitter trends every other day. Outside of stan szn, the fandom idles in maintenance mode; during it, everyone's fully activated and the chaos is beautiful.
- engage szn73%
The stretch of the year — or a particular window in a creator's or brand's calendar — when audience interaction is at its highest and every post seems to spark a conversation. Engage szn is often tied to a cultural moment: an awards cycle, a sports championship, a controversy, or a product launch that gets everyone talking at once. During engage szn, even mediocre posts perform well because the broader ecosystem is primed for response. Creators plan their biggest moves around it; everyone else just gets pulled along.
- hyperpop szn71%
The unofficial stretch of the year — usually late autumn through winter — when hyperpop becomes the dominant aesthetic online. Hyperpop szn isn't on any calendar, but stan Twitter and TikTok FYP know it when it arrives: the releases stack up, the edits go ultra-saturated, and every playlist suddenly sounds like a glitched-out fever dream. It overlaps with back-to-school season energy and SAD-core vibes colliding into something beautifully unhinged.
- peak szn71%
The stretch of time when someone — or something — is at the very top of their game, when everything is going right and the vibe is simply unmatched. Peak szn can refer to a person's personal hot streak, a show's best season, an artist's prime era, or even a time of year when everything feels aligned. It carries a tinge of nostalgia even when it's happening right now, because there's always a knowing awareness that it won't last forever. That bittersweet edge is part of what makes the phrase land.
- l szn71%
A period of time — often personal, sometimes cultural — characterized by a wave of Ls hitting harder and more frequently than usual. L szn might be cuffing season when everyone's getting coupled up except you, or playoff time when your team collapses, or a stretch of weeks where nothing goes right. Declaring it L szn is equal parts self-pity and dark humor: a way of framing a rough patch as a legitimate season rather than just random bad luck. The framing implies it will eventually end, which is the small mercy.
