Definitions
A sweat arc is the character journey a player goes through as they descend into — and sometimes back out of — full tryhard mode. It tracks the progression: the casual player who gets beaten one too many times, starts grinding, loses sleep, optimises their setup, becomes unrecognisable to their friends, and eventually either finds peace or burns out entirely. Told in retrospect, a sweat arc is usually funny. Living through someone else's sweat arc in real time is much less so.
He's three weeks into his sweat arc — new headset, new sensitivity, hasn't played anything else since the loss.

- sweat71%
A player who takes every match extremely seriously — perfect meta builds, no fun allowed. "Sweaty" describes their playstyle. Usually a mild insult.
- sweat mode70%
Sweat mode is the deliberate decision to play at maximum intensity — every decision optimised, every movement precise, emotion stripped out, pure competitive execution. It's not how you always play; it's a mode you switch into when the stakes feel real enough to justify the mental cost. 'I'm going into sweat mode' is a declaration that the gloves are coming off. It can apply beyond gaming too: any domain where you shift from casual participation to locked-in, obsessive performance qualifies as sweat mode.
- sweat69%
An extremely or excessively competitive player.
- mega sweat68%
A mega sweat is someone whose tryhard behaviour has surpassed all reasonable competitive benchmarks and entered the realm of the genuinely alarming. This isn't someone who tries hard in ranked — this is someone who brings full ranked intensity to every single interaction, including modes explicitly designed to be casual. A mega sweat in a party game is a social crime. In a competitive setting they're either carrying the team or making everyone miserable, sometimes both.
- sweat szn67%
Sweat szn marks a period in a game's calendar — typically ranked season reset, tournament qualification windows, or end-of-season rank pushes — when the average lobby difficulty spikes because everyone suddenly cares a lot more. Casual players dread sweat szn because the matchmaking fills with players who've been saving their intensity for exactly this moment. It's used as a warning label and a collective commiseration, acknowledging that the next few weeks of play are going to be significantly less fun and significantly more punishing.
