zombieing mode

The act or practice of ghosting someone and later returning unexpectedly without explanation or apology.

Zombieing szn is the collective period — often fall or post-summer — when exes and old flings start crawling back out of the digital grave. The cold weather hits, loneliness spikes, and suddenly everyone who ghosted you in June is watching your stories again. Zombieing szn is both a warning and a prophecy. Lock your DMs. Delete the thread. They're coming back and they will act like nothing happened.

Zombieing coded describes a person whose behavior pattern is giving undead energy — they disappear without explanation, resurface without apology, and act baffled when you're not thrilled to see them. It's not that they did it once; it's that the whole vibe screams habitual ghoster with revival tendencies. Zombieing coded people often seem completely normal until you look at their relationship history, which reads like a graveyard with revolving doors.

A zombieing check is the moment you pause and ask yourself whether you're about to pull a zombie move on someone — resurfacing after months of silence as if nothing happened. It's also what your friends do when they notice you sliding back into an ex's DMs after a long ghost. The zombieing check is an act of basic emotional accountability: before you hit send on that casual 'hey,' ask yourself if you're a person or a corpse crawling out of the ground.

A zombieing fail is when the resurrection attempt backfires spectacularly — you slide back into someone's DMs after months of ghosting and they either leave you on read, screenshot it for the group chat, or respond with a single 'who is this?' The zombieing fail is karmic. It's the universe reminding you that you can't ghost people and then expect a warm welcome back. The bigger the original ghost, the more public and humiliating the zombieing fail tends to be.
