breadcrumbing fail

When someone attempts to breadcrumb — to keep someone interested with minimal effort — but executes it so badly that the manipulation becomes obvious and backfires entirely. A breadcrumbing fail usually happens when the crumbs are too sparse, too obviously timed, or too transparent in their intention. Instead of keeping the target curious, they just feel disrespected and dip. Classic breadcrumbing fail moves include leaving a reaction on a two-week-old story, or sending 'lol' to a heartfelt message. The attempted power play becomes evidence of emotional laziness.
