buff check

A boujee check is a lighthearted reality audit to determine how far someone's tastes, habits, or spending have drifted into high-maintenance territory. It can be self-initiated or called out by friends when the evidence starts piling up — the $18 smoothie, the upgraded hotel room 'just because,' the insistence on a specific brand of sparkling water. It's usually affectionate rather than critical. The boujee check isn't about shaming — it's about acknowledging the upgrade arc with at least a degree of self-awareness.

The act of evaluating whether food — or by extension any experience — truly lives up to the 'bussin' standard of being exceptionally, undeniably good. A bussin check is the moment of honest judgment: does this actually slap, or was the hype misplaced? It can happen at a restaurant ('is this bussin though?'), on a playlist, or even in a friendship group assessing whether the night is worth staying for. Bussin checks are informal but decisive — you're either getting a hard yes or a polite 'it's giving mid.' No diplomatic maybes allowed.

A bffr check is a sharp reality-test delivered to someone who is clearly in their feelings, in denial, or operating with a deeply skewed perspective — it's the verbal equivalent of a gentle but firm slap back to reality. 'Bffr' (be for real for real) is already a call-in, so a bffr check extends that into a structured moment of confrontation: pausing the conversation, identifying where someone has gone off the rails, and pointing them directly back toward what's actually true. Usually done by someone who cares enough to be honest rather than comfortable.

A lighthearted check-in or status update between close friends or romantic partners — derived from 'bb' (baby/babe) as a term of endearment. A bb check is a soft wellness ping asking how someone is doing, often used in text exchanges to show you're thinking of them.

The moment when someone's attempt to look or perform as a muscular, athletic person spectacularly backfires — whether it's a failed lift, an ill-fitting shirt that reads wrong, or confidently overestimating their strength in public. Buff fail lives at the intersection of gym humor and humility, a beloved content genre on social media where bravado meets physics. The term can be affectionate — everyone who trains has buff fails — or used to gently call out someone whose execution didn't match their energy.
