Chopped sandwich is a viral TikTok recipe trend where deli ingredients are chopped together with mayo and stuffed into bread. If your teen mentions chopped sandwiches they are talking about food content. Not concerning. Mostly inspired by Italian-American hoagies. If your kid uses it constantly, ask them where they first heard it, not to police their speech but to understand which online community they are in.

For ESL learners
Chopped sandwich (also chopped cheese in NYC contexts) is a 2023 viral TikTok food trend. The specific TikTok sandwich is a finely chopped Italian sub. Use it only in food-trend or recipe contexts. Formal equivalent: "a chopped Italian sub" or "a chopped hoagie." Common non-native mistake: confusing it with the New York "chopped cheese" sandwich, which is a separate dish (ground beef with cheese on a roll).
