craic check

An informal audit of the current fun levels in any situation — literally asking whether the craic is present, abundant, or distressingly absent. A craic check can be requested before committing to a night out, during a gathering that's gone quiet, or in a group chat when deciding whether to join. If the craic check comes back negative, people start leaving. If it comes back positive, nobody goes home. It's the Irish-diaspora equivalent of reading the room, but louder and with more opinions.
