A cultural moment — often post-holiday or post-overconsumption wave — when the internet collectively pivots from hauls to honesty. Deinfluencing szn is when your For You page fills with "things I regret buying" videos, destash content, and creators doing "use what you have" challenges. It tends to spike in January after Christmas spending guilt or after a viral splurge trend peaks and the backlash arrives. Recognizing you're in deinfluencing szn means the pendulum has swung hard away from buy-buy-buy.
It's officially deinfluencing szn — every creator I follow just posted a "stop buying this" video in the same week.

Semantically related
- deinfluencing78%
TikTok's anti-trend format where creators tell viewers what NOT to buy. The inverse of a haul. Often the video that ends your shopping cart — you see the honest review and close the tab. Popular among creators trying to rebuild trust after years of paid promotion.
- deinfluencing fail77%
The embarrassing moment when someone who preaches deinfluencing gets caught buying something they publicly said wasn't worth it — or when a "don't buy this" video inadvertently sends the product flying off shelves. A deinfluencing fail is peak irony: the anti-haul that accidentally becomes a haul, or the creator who lectures about overconsumption and then posts a sponsored unboxing the next week. The internet never forgets, and the comments will find the receipt every time.
- deinfluencing mode77%
The mental state of actively resisting purchase triggers — you've switched off the algorithm, closed the shopping app, and entered a zone of deliberate non-buying. Deinfluencing mode is both a mindset and a flex: you've opted out of the endless "add to cart" loop and are now watching haul videos purely as entertainment, unmoved. It often follows a budget check or a credit card statement that hit different. It's the conscious antidote to doom-scrolling straight into your Amazon order history.
- deinfluencing coded75%
Describing a vibe, aesthetic, or person that radiates skepticism toward trends and conspicuous consumption — even if they never explicitly use the word "deinfluencing." Someone who's deinfluencing coded might thrift exclusively, refuse to post hauls, and visibly roll their eyes at "investment piece" marketing language. It's a personality read: you just get the sense this person is not out here buying things because a creator told them to. Quiet practicality, dupe energy, and "I already have one" instincts are hallmarks.
- deinfluencing check75%
A moment of genuine accountability — usually in video or post format — where a creator or consumer pauses to honestly assess whether their buying habits, recommendations, or consumption patterns have actually served them. A deinfluencing check asks: did that product live up to the hype? Did I actually need it? Am I still recommending things that don't deliver? It applies the 'check' call-out format to the deinfluencing movement, treating transparency about consumption as an ongoing practice rather than a one-time confession.
