l eval

An assessment that comes out average — not a burn, not a co-sign, just a shoulder shrug in rating form. A mid eval means someone looked at you, processed the data, and landed at 'yeah, fine.' It stings more than a harsh verdict because at least harsh means you registered. Mid eval is the judgment equivalent of being forgettable — technically not failing, but not passing with any style either.

A positive assessment — the judgment came back in your favor and it's official. A W eval means someone ran the numbers, watched the tape, or took a hard look and concluded you're actually delivering. In chess it references a favorable engine evaluation; in social contexts it means the unspoken vibe check came out clean. Getting a W eval from someone whose opinion carries weight is a genuine moment worth acknowledging.

Short for "evaluation." A benchmark or test suite used to measure how well an AI model performs. "Write better evals" is a common 2025 refrain.

Describes someone who has fully internalized the habit of quantifying and judging everything through metrics and scores. Eval-pilled people can't just enjoy things — they're always assigning numbers, rankings, or verdicts. Common in chess communities (literal engine evaluations), looksmaxing forums, and anywhere rating culture runs deep. They'll watch a movie and immediately want to score each scene. Fun at analysis, exhausting at dinner.

Plural of eval. The test suite — automated checks, golden-set comparisons, A/B preference — used to measure LLM output quality before shipping.
