lore fail

A moment when someone's attempt to be mysterious, deep, or lore coded completely backfires — usually by accidentally revealing too much, breaking the mystique with something embarrassing, or just being clocked as trying too hard. The lore fail is the narrative equivalent of a villain monologue that ends with tripping over a rug. It doesn't erase the lore, but it puts a dent in the mystique that everyone remembers. Often more memorable than the lore itself, and usually the story that gets retold at every gathering forever.
