Mate coded describes a person whose personality is so naturally, fundamentally oriented toward friendship that they couldn't be anything other than a loyal, dependable, low-drama companion even if they tried. Mate coded people are the ones who remember your coffee order, show up without being asked, make everyone in the group feel included, and never once make it weird. Their whole energy is built for sustained platonic devotion — they're not the most dramatic or the most exciting, but they're the ones you call at 2am when everything goes wrong. Being called mate coded is one of the better compliments you can receive.
