My reaction when. Almost interchangeable with MFW, but more often used when the attached reaction image is a GIF showing motion (a flinch, eye-roll, double-take) rather than a still face. A staple format on r/reactiongifs and meme subs.
That feeling when. Used to set up a relatable mood — usually paired with an image, GIF or emoji — that captures a small, specific emotional moment. The phrase originated on 4chan with the "tfw no gf" macro and has long since gone mainstream on Twitter and Instagram.
