W mid is a backhanded compliment that frames something mediocre as a relative win — usually because your expectations were so underground that merely adequate registers as a victory. It's the slang equivalent of 'exceeded expectations' when your expectations were subterranean. Grading on a severe curve, w mid celebrates the mid not for being good but for not being as bad as feared.
