Internet slang for the state or condition of being a NEET — someone who is Not in Education, Employment, or Training. NEETdom describes the lifestyle, the identity, and often the psychological trap of existing outside the conventional path of school and work. On forums and imageboards it's sometimes worn as a badge of rebellious freedom, sometimes lamented as a stuck situation. The '-dom' suffix frames it as a realm or kingdom, giving it a darkly ironic grandeur.

NEETdom means: the state of being a NEET.. It is internet-era slang, commonly seen on TikTok, Discord, Reddit or X. There is no real cause for parental concern; it is descriptive vocabulary rather than risky behaviour. If your teen uses it, context will usually make the intent clear. A short, curious question about where they heard it is usually all that is needed to know whether to follow up.
NEETdom means: the state of being a NEET.. Register: very informal, internet slang. Suitable only for casual conversation, chat and social media. Do not use in business, academic or news writing. A common learner mistake is using the word in a register it does not fit, or assuming a single global meaning; native speakers immediately notice when slang appears in formal contexts, so always check the surrounding register before producing it yourself.

Idledom is a rare dialectal Scots word meaning idleness or the state of being idle — the condition of having nothing to do, or of doing nothing productive. The '-dom' suffix, which typically denotes a realm, state, or condition (as in 'freedom' or 'boredom'), here creates an abstract noun from 'idle'. It's a slightly poetic or literary construction that might appear in Scots prose or poetry rather than in everyday modern speech. The word has an almost satirical quality, elevating idleness to the status of a kingdom or domain.
